MAPPING A COMMON PLACE – POINTS OF URBAN COINCIDENCES

A series of simultaneous interventions in the cities of Venice and Hangzhou, 2006-2008

<<

According to the system of superimposing equally-scaled maps over a chosen center ten coinciding points have been chosen
between the cities of Venice and Hangzhou. These points were simultaneously marked by a painted circle on the pavement;
next to the circle, the name of the corresponding place in the other city was written. The points were then photographed or “recorded”
through a sound device. On the following day, the photograph or the sound taken in the other city was presented through a self standing sign
or a sound-box next to the painted point with a textual explanation of what could be seen or heard in the other place.
The recording time, the date, the coordinates of the points as well as a short explanation of the project were added.
